ABOUT THIS SITE

Status of the Color Usage Site
The authors of the Color Usage Site are no longer with NASA. The website is being maintained in its final form as a public service:

Larry Arend has retired from NASA
Alex Logan has returned to the Silicon Valley private sector
Galina Havin has returned to the Silicon Valley private sector

The Color Usage Site was developed by Larry Arend, Alex Logan, and Galina Havin.

• Technical content: Larry Arend, with contributions from Alex Logan and Galina Havin.
• Website design and coding: Alex Logan, with contributions from Larry Arend and Galina Havin.
• ColorTool design and coding: Galina Havin , with contributions from Larry Arend and Alex Logan.

Mission
The C
olor Usage Website is intended to help with development of safe, usable designs for complicated information displays, especially aerospace displays.

The website is directed mainly to people who are designing graphic content for aerospace (and similar) electronic displays. These are expected to be mostly software engineers and graphic arts experts rather than color scientists or human factors engineers.

Content
The general idea is to provide concrete and practical advice at the top level of the website. Further information is available via links, some of it regarding finer points of design and some explaining where the top-level advice comes from (more technical, applied color science).

With few exceptions we have included only things that can be directly demonstrated on the site. The rationale for this is that if it doesn’t occur on your display of the website it’s probably not a first-order issue in other applications (important exception: a few issues might be more/less important in longterm, familiar use).
